Yields bite, oil pauses

Into the Friday session: a 5% 10-year is live, crude has come off the boil on Saudi-channel headlines, and the tape is a tug-of-war between those two.

OVERNIGHT

Thursday’s squeeze does not travel for free

US stocks bounced hard Thursday — S&P +1.14% to 7,637.76, Nasdaq +1.69% — as oil and yields both eased. That is the mechanical bid. It is not a new narrative. Overnight, the 10-year is bid again and crude is two-way around $102. Friday is a positioning session into the weekend: no one wants to be short tech if Hormuz quietens, and no one wants to be long duration if 5% prints.

WHAT MATTERS

Watch the 10-year and the crack, not the index

If the 10-year holds under 4.95% and WTI stays heavy, the Thursday squeeze can extend. If either breaks the other way, breadth — already thin — will show up as a lower high in the S&P against a red majority. Utilities and REITs are the first to tell you.
